Packaging
can be basically divided into Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary. Simplified, primary
packaging involves the individual immediate packaging of goods and
products; secondary packaging is when taping machines seal larger packaging containers
(like boxes) which contain the individually packaged goods and products; and tertiary
packaging deals with packaging for transportation of large packages
(like boxes) containing goods and products, otherwise also known as shipping.
Presently,
the focus of secure and effective packaging is measured either in
the secondary (the phase/step involving taping machines) or tertiary level—as
primary packaging is often fragile and needs to be assisted or augmented by the
efforts of either or both secondary and tertiary packaging. But with the advent
of a revolutionary technological breakthrough, primary packaging can now be
made stronger thus allowing the secondary and tertiary levels of packaging more
leeway in their development efforts.
